About Us
Our roots begin with my mom, Marisol, a gifted designer who spent years creating custom clothing for local clients. From wedding dresses to swimwear to festival pieces, she poured her heart into every piece. But, her biggest dream was always to one day launch a brand of her own.
Then life tested us.
After powerful hurricanes hit Puerto Rico, we lost our home and lived months without electricity, clean water, or stability. At 15, I worked construction, alongside the carpenter who was rebuilding our house, since we couldn’t find anyone else to assist him. I had already been working with my dad in mechanics before that. Hard work was never optional, it was our way of surviving, of moving forward.
Then came the pandemic. With no income and everything at a standstill, my mom, dad, siblings, and I came together to make face masks, hundreds of them. They were required, and they kept food on the table. Creating, quite literally, saved us.
Something shifted in me during that time.
I realized how quickly life can change and how precious every dream truly is.
So I asked myself, if creating is what kept us going, why stop now?
That’s when I began working with my mom, learning sewing and design. It was in those creative moments that the vision of Yazani began to take shape, a dream we started many times, but never fully followed through on.
Years later, we finally stopped waiting, and we’ve officially launched Yazani. Just my mom and I, she sews, I cut. We make tropical-inspired, feminine pieces that reflect the vibrant spirit of our island.
Fun fact: our brand name is a blend of my sisters’ names and mine, a quiet nod to the family love that’s stitched into everything we do.
Thank you for supporting slow fashion, for choosing meaning over mass production, and for joining our journey.
We hope our pieces remind you of your own strength, and how beautiful it is to keep going, no matter what.
One of a kind, just like you.
With love,
Zahíra & Marisol
